Calls for proposals - RERIPA

The RERIPA project (Strengthening Research and Innovation ecosystems to address the impact of climate change in the Pacific), coordinated by IRD (french Research Institute for Development) and its parteners PIDF (Pacific Islands Development Forum Secretariat), PIANGO (Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organizations) and VMGD (Vanuatu Meteorology and Geohazards Department) has just published its two calls for proposal.

The overall objective of RERIPA is to strengthen research and innovation (R&I) ecosystems of small Pacific countries, as well as networks of stakeholders and strategies for innovative and sustainable solutions to the negative impacts of climate change. Participatory and multi-actor approaches will be favored, with the support of: scientific and traditional knowledge, project engineering and partneship structuring. The project is funded for 4 years by the ACP Innovation Funds (research and innovation progam of the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States), with the financial contribution of the European Union (11th EDF).

Four calls for proposal will allow to solicit partners to contribute to:

  • 1. "Mapping the R&I network of small Pacific island countries and their strategies"
  • 2. "Strengthening the R&I skills of small island countries in the Pacific"
  • 3. "building multi-actor Living Labs"
  • 4. "Support to the innovation process and to the solutions resulting from the Living Labs"

In accordance with the RERIPA project objectives, forth interested parties are invited to submit proposals for the two separate calls listed below:

More about RERIPA

The consequences of climate change on the terrestrial and marine environments of the Small Island States of the Pacific are already very strongly felt. RERIPA will target three key themes in line with the priorities of the SIDS territories; coastal vulnerability, ocean health, and sea level rise with the intention of implementing inclusive and sustainable R&I strategies.

The project will be organized around Living Labs which will allow the co-construction of innovative solutions by actors from various backgrounds such as research communities, development actors, public policy makers, local businesses and citizens, based on modeling and artificial intelligence, engineering, sensors/observatories, remote sensing, local knowledge.

The RERIPA management unit is based in Fiji where the project has recruited a project manager and an administrative and financial manager to support the scientific coordination provided by IRD.
