Death of the king of Tonga, Siaso Tupou V

The king of Tonga, Siaosi Tupou V, 63 years old, died this Sunday in a hospital in Hong-Kong, according to the website Matangi Tonga Online.

Siaso Tupou V was officially enthroned in 2008, succeeding to his father Taufa’ahau Tupou IV who died on September 11, 2006, at the age of 88, after a reign of 41 years.

The king went to Switzerland for his primary studies, and then to Oxford University and the Royal Academy of Sandhurst, in England.

His Excellency Gilles Montagnier, Ambassador of France, offered his condolences to the Prime Minister of Tonga and assured that the Embassy of France will attend the funeral.
