France and Tuvalu
Tuvalu, neighbouring France through the territory of the Wallis and Futuna Islands, maintains very favourable relations with our country. Bilateral cooperation concerns education (aid to schools, French classes for beginners). During the bilateral meetings held outside the 35th Pacific Islands Forum, the Prime Minister wanted to see this cooperation extended to include the areas of energy (renewable energies, including solar energy), sports and public works (earthwork). In international bodies, Tuvalu is favourable to our positions, in particular with regard to the environment, and has supported French candidacies at the United Nations on several occasions.
Like Kiribati, Tuvalu is ready to develop trade relations with us, as it has already done for the printing of its postage stamps. France’s first Honorary Consul in Tuvalu, Ms. MARICA SELUKA, took up her post in 2003.
