France’s stable position in the Shanghai Ranking illustrates French scientific influence around the world

Jiao Tong University, China, updated the new edition of the Shanghai Ranking on 15 August 2022 (Academic Ranking of World Universities). This 2022 list showcases the dedication of researchers and lecturers from 28 French institutions.

As in 2021, four French academic institutions are ranked inside the Top 100, with three inside the Top 50. The ranking at number 16 in the world for University of Paris-Saclay (leading French university and number 3 among European universities) means that for the third consecutive year, France maintains its third spot globally, based on the number of institutions in the Top 20.

This performance reflects France’s buoyant results in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects published the previous month. It attests to the scientific influence of France around the world.

These results strengthen the French policy to invest in research in the long term, through the France 2030 investment programmes, among others.

These results are first and foremost the result of dedication by researchers, lecturers and all research support staff for many years. Their commitment and the quality of their scientific research enables France to hold onto its position among the greatest nations in the field of research.
